How to specify connection in migrations Laravel 5?
Laravel 5 Migrations
Migrations are like version control for your database, which allow us to modify database schema and stay up to date on the current schema state. Migrations are typically paired with the Schema Builder to easily manage your application’s schema.
In laravel 5 project, we can use multiple database connection, by defining them in database.php and .env file and use those connections in Models as following.
protected $connection = “connection_name” /// same that is defined in database.php file.
Same as we can specify connection in migration file as following.
First create migration file by following command.
php artisan make:migration migration_file_name /// change migration file name
Now open this migration file that you created and write following code in up method.
Schema::connection('connection_name')->table('database.table', function(Blueprint $table) { $table->timestamps(); });
For testing purpose I just added created_at and updated_at fields in table.
Change “connection_name” and “database.table” name as per your connection, database and table name.
Now run migration and you will find that timestamps fields created in your given database table.
