My cart block can easily be shown on left sidebar by editing checkout.xml file which is in app/design/frontend/your-theme/layout/checkout.xml
Look for following lines…
<reference name="right">
<block type="checkout/cart_sidebar" name="cart_sidebar" template="checkout/cart/sidebar.phtml" />
And change name=”right” to name=”left”
<reference name="left">
<block type="checkout/cart_sidebar" name="cart_sidebar" template="checkout/cart/sidebar.phtml" />
Save file and refresh your site.
